The type of roof deck sheathing (material), thickness, and form of attachment is considered. Plywood or Oriented Stranded Board with a minimum of 7/16" thickness is verified. In addition, the types of fasteners (nails, screw or staples) is noted along with the nailing pattern.

Verification Method
The only way to verify roof deck attachment is with a visit to the attic. The sheathing must be visible (not covered by heat shields or foam insulation). The type and thickness of the sheathing will be recorded. A metallic nail scanner must be used to determine the nailing pattern within the trusses (i.e. every 6 inches). Photos are required.
